The Sherman County School District is accepting applications for a full time First Grade Teacher for the 2020/21 school year.  Sherman County School boasts small class sizes and has implemented ORTIi and PBIS providing an ideal environment for an educator dedicated to the success of each individual student.

 

Job Purpose Statement:

 

The primary focus is the establishment of a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of growth while considering the developmental level of the individual student. Instruction includes: student guidance, classroom management, discipline, and knowledge in subject areas taught and District standards. This is demonstrated by utilizing appropriate curriculum, supplementing curriculum as needed, using evidence-based instructional practices, and assessing student progress.

 

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

  • Valid Oregon Teaching License – Multi-Subject Self-Contained
    • ECE - To teach multiple general education subjects at grades pre-kindergarten through 4 in an elementary school.
    • To teach general education subjects at grades 3 through 8.
  • Holds and maintains an appropriate license and endorsement(s) from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon; and displays a willingness to teach any qualified subject area.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
  • Successfully pass district background screening

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Plan and implement a program of study following state and district goals/curriculum that meets the individual needs and development of students.
  2. Instruct students directly and guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; establish clear objectives for all instructional units, projects and lessons to communicate these goals and objectives to students.
  3. Diagnose the needs and abilities of assigned students and prescribe appropriate learning activities for each student.
  4. Implement individual plans (IEP/504/TAG/etc.) for students as needed.
  5. Evaluate each student’s growth and develop instructional plans for the future.
  6. Assess student skills and knowledge in accordance with state and district requirements.
  7. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents/guardians concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  8. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom and school in a fair and just manner.
  9. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  10. Confer with colleagues, administration, students, and/or parents.
  11. Assist parents and community members as needed.
  12. Strive to improve professional competence through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, classes, and other professional development activities.
  13. Work harmoniously with others and communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff.
  14. Operate computer and software programs as related to job responsibility.
